Chesterton Mining Memorial Sculpture #MadeByArtworks

Commissioned by the Realise Charity, the Chesterton Memorial Sculpture lies in the heart of the Chesterton community.

It sits in Castle Street, Chesterton and stands as a dedicated memorial to the people who lost their lives and the men who tirelessly fought to save them.

But it also represents mining, brickwork, steelwork, foundry and pottery. 5 areas of industry which were based in Chesterton.

In July 1937, 30 people perished and 8 were seriously injured in a disaster set off by flames and a set of devastating explosions.

The production is to commemorate the 5 brave rescuers, the people who were part of the disaster and the people who lost their lives.

The sculpture took a total of 1 month manufacturing and production time. It serves as a fitting memorial for the residents of Chesterton.
