A business administrator is a great job role which can allow you to pick up vital skills in an office environment and be able to apply them to a range of other jobs.

Job Role: 

This role is based on a 6.5 hour working day.

The job is critical for one whole aspect of the business; producing and shipping personalized alcohol. Once full training is given, you’ll be responsible for the whole process yourself and therefore attention to detail is critical.

You will report directly to the Office Manager and have your own computer, desk and work station. You will have the satisfaction of seeing your work in world-famous retailers and also on TV.

The role will be divided between admin and warehouse duties so you will get to be involved with the entire process from creating a shipping label to boxing up the gift ready to be shipped.

At very busy times, you might be expected to produce 100 different labels for a variety of products including champagne, whisky and Prosecco. Which can be a task to keep up with but with the correct training you will be able to keep up with this pace at the busier times.

Although, generally the artwork for the labels is provided, there will be plenty of opportunities to help design labels so this would be ideal for someone with creative flair or who enjoys design.

What is a Business Administrator?

Being part of Business Administration you are known for your effective organisation, telephone manner and often being trusted by a manager to take care of other administrative duties. Quite often, Business Administration members of staff will be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and be quite creative.
Business Administration can take you into a variety of jobs as you will cover a lot of various skills. You are an important member of the team and will learn how to manage your job to the best of your ability, make a good impression and this job role and you can carry these skills onto a managerial role.

We’re a family run business specialising in craft beer, real ale and gifts from the finest independent breweries in the country. We sell through our website and supply Waitrose, Selfridges, Virgin Wines and QVC amongst others.  We don’t just sell beer, we also provide personalised wine, champagne and Prosecco for a very well known retailer of gifts.


  • Computer literate and able to understand and work with excel.
  • Basic photoshop skills are not essential but would be really helpful.
  • Excellent attention to detail and good spelling skills are essential
  • Able to work on own initiative and be proactive in managing tasks.

As your role in the office progresses this means you will be answering the phones when you feel confident enough. Ensuring that the customers are spoken to in a well-mannered way is very important to us as this reflects on their opinion of us.

  • You will be working with other colleagues so it is important to work well as part of a team.
  • Getting orders right first time is essential so high standards of work is required.
  • Ability to manage your own task list.

Applying English & Maths To This Role: 

When working within our office, it is important your Maths and English skills are applied. Ensuring you are concentrating on reading different notes for orders and getting the quantity correct for the order to be shipped out. If not this can lead to customer complaints and we try our best to ensure the customer gets the best service that can be provided. As your role will be dealing with personalised labels this will include taking control of the printers that create the labels. This involves ensuring the labels are the correct size and the set up is accurate.

Qualifications Required:

GCSE Maths, English 9-4 (A*- C ) or Functional Skills (or equivalent) preferred

Qualifications Gained: 

Apprenticeship in Business Administration Level 2

Future Prospects: 

They have had 2 previous apprentices who have both progressed within their roles and stayed with the company beyond the apprenticeship.

They would also expect the right candidate to progress within the role and there is plenty of opportunity within their growing business.
